Family-owned Peninsula Growers Wholesale Nursery, located on the Mornington Peninsula, has been in operation since 1999. With over 50 years of experience in the propagation industry, Gary Barfoot brings expertise, while his son, Liam Barfoot, brings innovative ideas that continue to expand the business.
We are passionate about promoting a greener Melbourne and Victoria for both current and future generations. We are dedicated to supplying top-quality, sustainable plants that are well-suited to our local environment, low-maintenance, and drought-tolerant. We offer over 500 varieties of native and exotic plants, ensuring a diverse selection for all landscaping needs.
We are excited to introduce our new 96 Cell Tray, a durable, reusable propagation tray made from PP5 hard plastic. Designed for long-term use, this tray embodies a perfect balance of practicality and strength, thanks to our extensive collaboration with engineers. Key features include root trainers, airflow channels, and widened base openings for easier plug removal. Reinforcements between the plug structure and tray lip ensure added rigidity, while the UV-resistant recycled plastic construction guarantees a lifespan of at least 10 years.
We will also be showcasing Syzygium 'Up and Away,' our new PBR line that was featured in the Green Room at MIFGS this year. This remarkable plant boasts a neat, columnar habit and stunning year-round foliage. During the warmer months, it produces white flowers, while its red-copper new growth matures into deep green shades. This impressive native tree is a versatile garden performer, thriving in various climates and soil conditions.
Another highlight is Correa 'Choc Leaf,' our new PBR line that was featured in the bronze medallist Landscape Garden at MIFGS this year. This unique Correa stands out with its deep black-brown foliage, unlike any other. It offers a dramatic garden display with bold salmon-pink new growth throughout the year. 'Choc Leaf' forms a low, branching, compact shrub that is exceptionally robust, with added frost and drought tolerance. Its dark foliage is adorned with yellow and pink tubular blooms from late autumn through spring.
Another exciting plant we’re developing is a new species of Lomandra. While it’s yet to be named, we’re eager to gather ideas from participants during Trials Week. This Lomandra features a low-spreading habit and boasts beautiful, fragrant flowers—a true beauty that we can’t wait to showcase.
